Laurie C. Duke earned her bachelor of arts in music education from Columbus State University and a master of science in educational leadership from Walden University. While at CSU, she was inducted into the Phi Mu Alpha and Pi Kappa Lambda music honor societies and also served as a transcriptionist for the Columbus State University Wind Ensemble as well as a guest clinician and commissioned composer for the Youth Orchestra of Greater Columbus. Upon graduation, Mrs. Duke served as Director of Orchestras at Meadowcreek High School and Lilburn Middle School. She also served as Associate Conductor for the Gwinnett Youth Symphony Orchestra before leaving these positions to develop a music program at the Snellville Christian Academy, and served as Principal of the school while continuing to build the music program. Returning to Gwinnett County Public Schools in 2008, Mrs. Duke would grow the Orchestra program at Berkmar Middle School to over 25% of the school’s population and earn a grant from the Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation in 2014. She was also honored to be a Teacher of the Year finalist at the school on 5 occasions. In 2015, Mrs. Duke joined the faculties at the Gwinnett School of Mathematics, Science and Technology where she is establishing a Chorus program and Discovery High School where she started the Orchestra program, doubling its size within one year. Growing the Chorus by 75% in the past year, Mrs. Duke also assists the Orchestra program as a string specialist.
